mounting plate for additional switches

Hi,

I'm planning to add a few bits and pieces to my 1970 Minor:

- hazard lights switch (will require a suitable new flasher unit)
- 12v socket (cigarette lighter style)
- high beam flash switch (where would it be best fitted?)

Does anybody have recommendations about what switches to use that wouldn't look too modern, plus a suitable mounting plate and location for them that looks ok whilst being practical?

Any pictures would be appreciated.

i've just got the first two and they came with their own sensible-looking mounting plates. I was braced for modern horrors but actually i think they will look fine.

I've seen a beautifully-kept Minor whose owners had added two extra switches on the speedo surround, just above the two outermost existing switches. Looked great (but it would of course mean drilling extra holes in your aluminium speedo surround and in the dashboard beneath). I'll be mounting the switches for me reversing light and fog light there. Let me know if you'd like to see a photo.

High beam flash switch: isn't this managed by just flicking the existing switch and then stomping on your high beam button?

Regarding high beam flash I haven't figured out how to stomp on the high beam button with your left foot on the clutch when stopped in first gear. That's the usual scenario when you will want to flash your lights.

They are standard toggle switches you can get from most independant car parts places. But I'm sure Minor wiper switches would do.

These days i get round the dazzle problem by flicking back to sidelights momentarily. It seems to have the desired effect - in fact I'm begining to see other people do it too.

Either put the handbrake on and transfer foot to button? or use right foot on clutch and left on button

Yep. That's Joemog. The left switch is for rear demist. the right for a reversing lights. Each bulb is wired in to prevent me leaving them on accidentally.

you can get nice chrome switches with LEDs in the end, This would save the extra holes for the bulbs.

in the dash is a nice neat solution, I have mine on a 90 degree plate under the drivers glove box.

I think I'm going to opt for the plate to leave the speedo uncluttered. Where did you get you chrome swithes with LED from?

was a guy in Germany, only 1-50 each and postage was low. They are very high quality and a nice 'click' when operated.

Thanks, the switch looks good. Would the LED flash if the switch is used for hazard warning lights ? (I intend to replace the flasher unit with one that supports hazard flashing)
