What does OB stand for, Jonathon? :)
Owen Burton. I can't seem to find a web site for them...

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

I remember reading that the manufacture of the various OB kits was taken on by the Bath Minor Centre. Can't remember where I read it though.

Here's a linky from the (pretty terrible) MMC Bath website: All the OB stuff

Jonathon - I made no reference to any particular make of kit - nor did I compare performance of discs v drums. I simply listed out what's available. Some are high cost - some are low cost. Some are difficult to fit - some are easy to fit. It's up to individuals what they want to do. Not every disc kit supplier will point out the possible need for a servo - and the master cylinder work - and the possible need for a remote reservoir. The original poster is now fully informed and will no doubt make his own mind up in due course.

I think he should change his avatar to 'Wolseley Drums'!

Wouldn't it be good to have all these different kits lined up somewhere and be able to make your own mind up as to the best?

Couldn't agree more Les , I'm sure that the National Rally will be a good enough show case for prospective buyer's. But in theory a vented/solid disc brake kit which utilise the same calipers and discs, should perform the same. My argument and concern is about the actual quality of the parts used. Now the forum does not allow for me or any other producer of these kits to discuss this issue sensibly, so when sweeping statements are made about disc kits in general, then I feel it imperative that distinctions are made and that the true facts are portrayed, preferably from actual customers of each kit available ,rather than hearsay, which only serves to cloud the issues and generalise. Sorry for the sermon, but in the abscence of being able to discuss the merits openly on this forum, I feel it only fair to defend our products from generalised comments

I'm sure all the disc kits are perfectly safe and effective - after all 4 out of my 5 cars have disc front brakes on them ! I simply point out that there is a low cost and easily fitted alternative which greatly improves the braking capability of the Morris Minor.

About time somebody setup an independant 'test' website that can be referenced by all of us when looking at conversion/upgrade components and parts.
This whole "I know of one kit thats complete **** but I can't tell you which it is" is about as much use as a fishing rod to a spaceman.

I suppose if you have the budget your best option is JLH, based purely on the fact the 'boss' posts here and has the obvious know-how to back up the faith he has in their products.
What would Macgyver do..?

I think that there must be quite a few people on this forum now who have different setups from various suppliers so it only a question really of doing a little bit of digging and asking around. Or just have a look on the recomended websites.
cheers,michael.
Mind you perhaps a disc brake sticky thread would be a great idea!

Easily done, if others find it necessary. Other opinions?

Let's make it a 'front brake' sticky - then the big drums won't feel excluded!

Maybe in the sticky there could be a bit of a blurb with a hoto or two of each kit, but also alongside each kit there could be a list of moggy owners that have fitted the kits. That way there is a list of people that can be contacted by others for more info.?
There just seems to be alot of questions about the upgrading of the moggy from brake upgrades to engine upgrades and suspension upgrades etc.
cheers,michael.

If we are going to sticky the topic, we could also link to
http://www.minormania.com/feature.php?id=2128&catid=757
http://www.minormania.com/feature.php?i ... pg=1&ord=1

As I found them quite useful. I have the marina discs to put on when I have started to assemble the beast :)

The spacers are to give clearance between the caliper and inside edge of the wheel.

spacers

Post by Willie »

The JLH kit includes the spacers which have the welcome result of slightly increasing the front wheel track width.
