Priority list...

Post by bigginger »

Following on from this -
Geordie wrote:Are 4 door cars in demand? Is there any difference in the value between 2 and 4 door cars? I've found a very good slightly moddified 4 door, it's a horrible "battleship grey" colour as well. I know from a third party that the owner has had no interest in it, the colour is enough to put most people off, but I can see past that.

Jonathan.
- I was wondering in what order people would list the variants for desirability. FWIW, for me it's:

Pick-up
4 door
2 door
Van
Convertible
Trav

Obviously the pick-up takes the top 10 places really, but that would be cheating :D

andrew
got to agree with you on the pickup being top of the list
i would then put the van into 2nd place (very sought after by people to advertise their bussines)
in 3rd place must be traveler
followed by convertable
and finally saloons

that's how i see it

I really like the 1000 2-door. There, I've said it.

And sheds belong in gardens, not on the roads :-)

Trav
p/u

Then I'm not sure over 2 or 4 door. 2 looks better (and should be a stiffer shell), 4 is probably more practical

Van (practical but I just don't like the looks)

Pick up (with original metal back)
Van (with full length side windows!)
Convertible (or tourer in MM circles!)
2 door
4 door
Traveller (Sorry, but these just don't appeal to me!)

IMHO and with tongue held firmly in cheek:

Traveller comes top because it's the most versatile. Seats up to five people, fold the back seats down and you have small-van-like carrying capacity, but unlike a van it has excellent visibility because of the big windows all round. The wood looks lovely if it's in good condition too.
4 door and 2 door saloons tie in second place because they're great except when you need that extra bit of storage.
Van is great for carrying lots of stuff about but not much good if you have more than one passenger.
Convertible is a saloon with a bit of cloth where the roof ought to be. Apparently some people like to remove the cloth in the summer so they can feel the rain in their hair.
Pickup only has one passenger seat and the luggage space is open to the elements (wind, rain, and the local scrotes' sticky fingers).

Or, if you're lucky, NONE, as from the factory. Easily removable if it has one and if it's a Trav owner looking for a lift, too :D

Ah, since we're all playing:

4 Door
Pickup
Van
Trav
2 Door
Convertible

I just love the curves of the 4 door, and all that chrome and stainless steel; the pickup is completely the dyke in me, as is the van, the trav is terribly practical, but around me would just end up a heap of rotten wood. For some reason I've never been so fond of the 2 door - I can't say as to why, I just haven't (sorry), and the convertible last, just because somehow it doesn't particularly appeal :-)

1: late (not Austin) van

2: everything else

Travellers give me the weirds because of childhood associations. Convertibles are so so pretty but so so impractical. Pickups are ok but not as good-looking as Mini pickups (sorry Big Man :P ) Saloons are just..... er..... yeah. Better than modern cars though :D

Well, for me it would be;

Traveller
Pick up
Van
Tie between 2 and 4 door saloon
Convertible

And I think I'm one of those rare types who doesn't particularly like lowlights, they look weird and wrong.
