I am a bit Mad when it comes to minors!
If your from the Devon club you might recognise this little beasty!

That was my lowlight Pickup I brought along to a few meets at the pub. I miss that pickup, soo cool! But the Turbo'd travs great fun too!
I was a member of the Devon club for a year or so but couldn't manage it down to the meets as I was working shifts but now im self employed I might be a bit more free to come along!
Im literally ooh, 50meters from the strip of land where the Exmouth meet is usually held and if im not away working i'll be there this year. I will look into when the next meet is and see if I can make it along.

Post up the dates etc and we'll all have to get our diaries out!

Cheers Guys.
The pick up was great fun but was getting a bit long in the tooth. Its was really well engineered with standard minor replacment panels etc, no sheet steel or fabricated bits.
Was really well put together but the downfall of it was that there was not enough drain holes for condensation etc and the whole lot was made out of steel and box section so was extremely heavy.
I had to do a fair bit of welding to get it thru the MOT as the condensation was getting to the inside which was pretty much inaccessable.
As far as I know I did reply to everyone who contacted me about the Pick up when it was up for sale some time ago now. It went to someone who used the forum call Gerard, cant find any of his details but I havent seen the car since selling it or heard from him which is a shame as I loved the car, swapped it for a lovely traveller though so im happy still - even though it now needs a new floor and cross member but hey!
I did see a picture of the car on a post about one of the rallies someone went to, think it was the National. I cant find the thread now though, the search features on this forum are very limited and difficult to use.
As far as I know now its owned by a trader, it had been re-sprayed and signwritten with a nice custom back cover made for it.
Soo much fun! It ran a 1600cc X-Flow engine which was adequate but not the best for the car IMO, because of the weight could've done with a bit more oomph! I had a set of 45 webbers to go on it but never got round to it as i was always fixing the exhaust which was forever fracturing!
Unfortunatley it was in the days before i had a digital camera so dont have many - if any pictures to hand other than the ones I posted here (which again I cant find!) I think their on my desktop PC back at home.
Bought a spoiler for my other car the other day and tried it on the back of the Turbo'd trav for a laugh......needless to say it wont be fitted!

Im away working in Holland at the moment so havent done anything on the trav yet, managed to source a car cover to try and stay on top of the wood work but other than that and a couple days driving before I left not much has been done.
Cant wait to get the mini lights back on it, ive had to drive it about with the Marina tyres on it and boy is the back end skeeterish!
Need a decent amount of rubber on the back end else it slides quite easily, theres a local carpark im going to go downto one evening to try and get the feel of the car and how far it can be pushed without sliding just so I know, im not used to so much power from the back end so gotta tame it somewhat!
Hmmm. Maybe the spoilers a good idea afterall!

Right, Jobs for today to get ready for the
Bristol Classic car show tommorrow!
If your not going your missing out so make sure you make it!
Jobs are.
Adjust the clutch.
Fit new longer threaded studs to read axle.
Re-fit mini light alloys.
Give it a good spring clean!
Just off out to do the above jobs in readiness for tommorrow!
These came thru whilst I was away working.

They look okay but I wont know untill I take the old ones out, the splines are the main part, I may need some new bolts but wont know till their fitted as there is some slight play in them when the minor nuts are screwed down on the studs.
Gearbox adjustment should be nice and easy, just wind in the cable adjustment nut a few turns and it should be fine!
Nice to be driving again! Parked upto pick my FTO up yesterday and look what I parked next to!

A very nice looking blue traveller! Which reminds me....Ive another traveller in my lockup awaiting its new floor weldathon and MOT!
Here he is! Introducing Trevor!

Poor things been tucked up all winter!
Thinking about the roof rack and baggage for the back of the Turbo Trav!
Could look amusing!
Wish me luck, im off out spanner in hand!

And Just back in!

Verdict!???? I saw it and just had to buy it!
Shame it dosent match the other script but its a bit of fun!
Well failed on a few bits i went out to do!
Failed on wheel studs. I can now say their def not Mini Studs!
The longer studs I picked up were far too skinny, I can only assume I have a Marina van/pickup axle, app they had beefier studs and drive shafts. SO Back to the drawing board! Hopefully pick something up at the car show tomorrow! Fingers crossed!

Theres the one that came out if anyone wants to tell me where to get em! Standard studs like that one I can find.....longer studs I cannot!
Studs have a really thick shank and spline section.
Adjusted the clutch, nice and easy, remove tensioner spring and wind the nuts up till it was free and not binding or squeeking as it had been.
Went upto the lockup and pinched the Roof rack and Suitcases off of Trevor and strapped it to the roof! Going to have to be carefull I dont strip Trevor for bits whenever I need something for the Turbo Trav, its lost its wheel nuts and now its roofrack!

Not sure it can pull it off as well as trevor does but if I buy anything from the car show tommorrow then who knows, might need it!
Should I keep it on?? Really cant make my mind up! I like it but prefer it on the other traveller tbh.
Oh well. Off out to start cleaning the car out again now! Cant really be arsed but should make the effort really!

Hi Heathy,
I like the little "turbocharged" logo - it's kind of naff-but-cool
I've got myself a "Turbo" graphic from a Metro - would have been on the front edge of the bonnet on the Metro, but I'll put it either on the bootlid or on the side of the bonnet.
Slight problem withh tomorrow, see the show thread.

Managed to find an extended set at the Bristol classic car show! SO just gotta get round to fitting them at some point!

Had an eventfull trip to and from the car show on Saturday, shame I didnt meet many of you from on here. Met one chap with a green traveller....cant remember your username sorry. And im sorry for upsetting your friend who was looking for an Allegro Vanden Plas Estate (Tild him to try the skips

Couple of minr teething problems on the journey!
One was a flet tyre I ended up replacing at the classic car car park which was a bit embarrassing! And the second came in two parts!
Im putting it down to a blown exhaust/inlet gasket. But when I was cruising up the motorway i'd get upto a cruising speed of 75-80mph whith an occassional fun overtake!

Occassionally though what would happen was the car would start to missfire and loose power, to keep your speed untill you could pull over you had to change down a gear to keep your speed but eventually it would just get so slow you had to pull over and stop. Funnily enough though the engine ran on tick over fine! But when you pulled away again it would miss etc as before!
Found the best way to get by was pop it out of gear (downhill of course!) Switch the engine off for 60 seconds or as safely as poss (relativley!) or just pull over Tunr ignition off for a minute or two (30 seconds for coasting) and then pop it in gear and turn the key and it would kick in again no problems at all and wouldnt do it again till you got upto 60-70 again. Very starange. But as it started sounding like a tank, which I beleive is blowing from the exhaust manifold I recon it was just a leak over the gasket messing the turbo up and making run funnily.
Thats my prognosis anyway. Anyone got anything else that I could check or might be wrong?!
Im just in the middle of fitting a new gasket so should find out if its fixed soon. Cant get the bloomin middle nuts fitted to the studs which is a pain in the A$$!

Came into get my magnet so i'll see if I can get em with that. Dropped one somewhere too and cant find the bugger. Not the easiest of job due to the size of the manifolds carb and turbo unit all in that vicinity!
Update and pics to follow!

I saw your car on Saturday but not you, and I would really have liked a look under the bonnet. Do you have a photo that shows how the air intake is done? And one showing the dump valve installation? I took my camera to get some photos, but then didn't know how to contact you on saturday.

It's called Smoke Grey, but in the metal it looks like a nice pale blue, not grey at all. Speculation is that the black wheels make it look more blue.aussiemike wrote:Cool that grey one looks just like mine except of course mine is in a 1000 peices!and quite rusty

This is the one that's getting the turbo. Currently waiting for a chance to take the exhaust manifold and turbo off the engine to take to Maniflow so they can make a downpipe. Also casting around for an axle.So what are the plans for the grey one???
I'm getting slightly bewildered at the sheer amount of things I need to find/decide/buy to get everything done. Currently thinking about supplying air to the engine, and ways to get hot air out of the engine bay.
I really need to spend some time on the little rust spots appearing on the body. That's the main task for dry summer days - I'll probably just sand down and put some protection on to stabilise it, and worry about a nice finish later.
I'd really like to be able to go to the National with everything done.

'waves'
was me you saw on Saturday when you were changing your wheel, and I too had trouble getting home, lost 3rd gear not far out of the show ground so was 2->4 changes all the way home ;-(
Don't worry about Josh, he's an odd lad who seems to like the most unloved of cars, he did not take offence.
Jim, the turbo trav is quite impressive, but the most important mods have to be the suspension set up, which means theres no worries putting down the power or stopping!

Seriously, Escort RS2000s put 100bhp through leaf springs, and with tramp bars on the Minor I'm confident that will be fine. I won't have as much power as heathy's car, anyway.
It damping that's the possible problem, I think. I don't know what I can do without cutting into the car's structure. I've followed the recent damper conversion thread pretty closely.
