No idle

Hello all fellow tinkerers

I keep having problems getting my idle right.

The problem at the moment is that my car stalls if I brake to a halt.

She is also very lumpy IF she wants to idle at all

I would like to get a smooth tickover, what is the best way to achieve this?
I have cleaned my carb yesterday, but that has only made a small difference, she she still runs on as well, that is getting worse, she had a decoke and valve grind 3 weeks ago

Agreed, but I do like to fix things myself every now and again, proving to myself that I am not a complete idiot when it comes to my own cars maintenance

Well I certainly wouldn't call you an idiot!!

but sometimes 40 years of experience working with these motors might possibly a prudent move. Diagnosis is always easier when the problem is infront of you rather than in cyber space

Ok I will give it another go tomorrow, might whack in the service kit for the carb.

It just occurred to me that I haven't checked if my carb damper goes down nicely. If that sticks the idle would be affected.

I do need to give Rod a visit anyway, to have him look at my oil leak.

Inlet manifold or carb spindle air leaks?

If you know you're getting good compression, then other than knackered ignition bits a lean mixture, or lean mixture at high vacuum (due to air leaks) might account for the problem maybe.

Compression seems ok.

Will check all the sparkly bits as well as renew the manifold gaskets (all 4)

I have reset the mixture, she seems to run better
