Pre MOT question

Post by Peetee »

I have just given Joemog the once-over and noticed that the chassis box section where the rear spring mount locates is slotted. I thought it was rot but both sides are the same. Is it a drain hole or has it rotted identically both sides?

slots

You need to be more specific Peetee, is it the front rear spring mount or
the shackle end? It should be pretty obvious if the slots are due to rust
surely.

It's the shackle end, effectively the area behind the shackle plates where the sides of the box section meets the bottom.
It may be obvious on a good clean original car but Joe is well patched in places and covered in a thick and uneven layer of underseal

I'm presuming you mean underneath...
The rear chassis extensions (where the shackle plates are) shouldn't be slotted - it needs to be a 'closed box' for strength.

The very end of the box section is open (inside the boot) but only the end - not the top, bottom, or sides.
