Rear Lights

Post by RogerRust »

I have no lights for my1961 series 3

Should I fit the series 3 light and separate indicators? These look original but need additional indicators to increase visabliity in modern traffic.

Or fit the series 5 lights? A safer option as they are much clearer and have indicators where people expect to see them.

Going by current driving standards - are indicators not just a fashion accessory?
They certainly never get used where I stay anyway. I'd go with original tail lights - less is more.
If you really want to add separate indicators check out the 'mini indicators' for motor bikes - they can be neatly fitted anywhere.

Original spec any time!

But then I am not a fan of the later rear lights anyway :D

The prettiest still are the one as featured on NWL 576. Doesn't do any harm to the design of the car :D

I've just ordered a set of the L549 lights as they are the correct ones for Phoebe, I'm looking for a set of orange LED 3/4" to replace a bolt in each side of the bumper.

Me too, I was thinking of replacing one of the chrome bumperbolts which such a light. Problem is that LED lights tend not to be street legal, iow for show only

The huge light clsuters from the later cars just look nasty imo.
How about something from the cars inbetween the two you suggested?
What would Macgyver do..?

Definitely go for the SIII lights. I wish I had when I had the wings replaced on Phyllis. They look so much nicer. Do the same for the fronts too, and get rid of those clunky orange things. Clear dual-filaments are much better, so the sidelights flash as indicators. :)
Happy Minoring!

I'm going to put yellow bulbs in the front sidelights behind white glass and the side lights into the head lights.

I'm bidding on some S III lights on ebay - so keep your hands off!!!

S III lights- but the add on bee-hive lights look dreadful - so try to avoid them!! Can you not just rewire the rear brake lights to operate on the 'intererrupter' system - so they flash.

That is only road legal if the car was made that way originally.
