Right-hand glovebox: stayed same size?

Post by JimK »

Can somebody tell me if the right-hand glovebox covers changed size/shape during production?

Link to panel that seller says is an MM panel from 1953:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &rd=1&rd=1

Now I thought that MM was '48 to '52? And '53 makes it a Series2? What is this panel from and will it fit in place of the glovebox surround on my 1000?

Ta.

Jim, I've been out with the camera and a spare early series III gold dash panel, here is the resulting pic...

Looks a perfect fit in Phoebe!

Fantastic, thanks Lee. How do you attach it? Do you reach through the dial holes then fit the dials?

Looks perfect for fitting my tacho and associated dials. <cheeky> How much do you want for that panel?</cheeky>:-)

It is attached to the backing plate that holds the dials and by 1 screw underneath.

I have the panel spare but no backing plate to match, I was planning on repainting it to fit in Mirium, but it is a spare nonetheless so make me an offer.

So the front panel doesn't actually hold the dials, it's just a piece of trim. That's fine for me, I can work around that.

Just one thing: from your photos, Phoebe has different glovebox trim to my car. I was hoping to replace the driver's side surround (Interior Pic) with a solid lid. Still think it will work?

Assuming it fits: The eBay bloke has started at £3 and £5 to post, so a guess would be £10 inc. postage?

I know it was cheeky to ask but I'd rather get one from a known person than J. Random Ebayseller.

I have a feeling the surround on yours attaches in a similar way to the gold dash but I don't have a later car here but I can check later for you if you like?

In the on eBay photo it looks like the gold dash has the same sort of tabs as the surround on mine, the only thing I can't see is they are in the same position.

If you could check later that would be great. If it fits nicely then when painted in Smoke Grey it will look very nice.
