Sill finishers don't fit

Post by alanworland »

Anybody had any problems with sill finishers? I've virtually finished my 2 door Series MM (high headlights) and need to fit them, and they seem to 'thick' at the thin end ie they stick out of the body line by the best part of 3/16! I cut a long 'vee' out of the top edge of one so that it would close up the right amount but it went a bit banana shaped during the welding back up so was scrap. The new ones seem thicker than my originals? Front inner sill sections have been replaced but the outer areas are totally original. Any ideas other than being more carefull with my welding?

if you buy anbother one and it still wont fit- then send it back. Its possibly a bad pressing. Other than that, if the metal is thick enough I would flatten the bend and put a new fold in the correct place- if you have access to metal folding equipment. But that is likely to be tricky to get right without leaving the panle a mess.

See if you can get a decent 2nd hand panel.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

It is probably the new finisher at fault, but in fairness, if you've completed a major rebuild then it is possible that the sills are not in 100% alignment with original position. Check measurements on a known "good" car for positions of sills and also dimensions of panel. If the latter is wrong then certainly send them back.

Thanks for the advice, I know the bodywork is ok as its never been apart or modded. If I can't find any thats usable I shall have to see about getting a pair bent up.
