I recall someone (possibly on here, maybe in the club mag) saying of how the easiest way to refit a split windscreen is to do one half at a time...?

Can someone else clarify?

I think the main thing was, that the rubber surround was fitted to the car, and then the glass fitted one pane (pain? heheh) at a time. Lots of sealant at the ready, methinks...

in the workshop man, it seams to show windsreen and rubber fitted as one, with cord. also i have noticed some kind of frame being used, in a series 2 workshop man. they all sujest from inside, but its impossible to get rubber near lip. i am thinking that is rubber first then glass from out side. havent even started thinking about the metal strip down the middel. probably need the spreader in the portapower thank for your help

If memory serves, I think someone said that you fit the glass first into the rubber, then fit the screen as one from the outside, then fit the centre strip.

I can't say exactly as I have never had my screen out! But I think that's what was said before.

The best method i found was to assemble the two glass panels and rubber away from car, cord around the edge and push it in from the inside. There is no way the glass can sit on the outside of the window apeture. Once the rubber is all around the edge then using those sucker-handles you have to jimmy the glass panes apart so that the centre metal strip can be placed between them and screwed down.

Dont put any sealant on until its all in place else it becomes really slippery.

hi guys i got a split screen and a NEW rubber seal its a bitch and the thing dont sit flat
1 the lip to sit on the frame is about 4cm's short and is about 1inch to long plus two thick and its impossible to fit it back in the car as the screens then become tight and is no play there should be a bit but none

IF SOMEONE HAS FITTED THERES AND ARE USING YOUR VECHILE (to see if sealed or cracked the glass)

I have to admit I gave up on mine and called in a windscreen replacement company to fit it. They were a specialist firm who worked with older cars, and even they had a battle. It took them half a day of swearing and pushing to get it fitted correctly.

well this is what ive done and its mint and a decent job NOT A BODGY JOB

U NEED
crap rubber for split lol
two new windows remade 1/8 of a inch smaller all the way round maybe to me another 1mm of top and bottom
none setting window sealent (like a putty) i forgot the name but its about £5-6 in a tube u use all
and loads of time

the windows now fit in with out the thought of a speed bump then smash glass everywhere
and i never had the chrome finisher so i put earth wire around the bead and put sealent over it looks good even then thats smaller so the finisher even then wont fit in all the way ((( i think i dont no im still a fast learner on moggys )))

so i hope that helps anyone but this is what is working for me overall £150ish for the lot windows £90-100 sealent and then MY FAVOURITE CAR IS A DATSUN CHERRY rubber :o
