Traveller Wood

Post by SteveandWilliam »

I bet this one has been asked lots of times before, but I am currently sanding down William's wood, and stick at a time, and I am told the best treatment is to put loads of Cuprinol Wood preserver on it and then regularly rub Danish Oil into it. I've done an arch and the waist rail on one side, and it certainly looks OK. But will this protect it from the weather, or is a coat of varnish best? Any tips on Wood care much appreciated.

Varnish just traps water inside the wood. I use teak oil - after the Cuprinol 5 star treatment. Make sure the drain holes at the rear side windows stay clear after the oil treatment.

Thanks Kevin. I have read this and it is very useful. I am trying Danish Oil at the moment just to ensure its protected, but I think in the Summer when its drier I will have a go at the full treatment.
