Looking back on all the work yesterday and nursing a back ache. I have to ask myself;
"Would any sane persion take the steering rack off, clean and repaint it just because the body shop got some green paint on the gaiters?"

Well, I thought I'll do that because it will annoy me if I don't. What sort of maniac would do that?
Mrs F did looked at me with that stange sort of sideways glance that she usually reseves for when she catches me nut polishing.

I guess I'm not looking for sympathy, but I would like to know if others suffer from this mental disorder.

I have to say that I don't suffer from that at all. At the first Rally we went to as owners, I remember looking under somebody's bonnet & thinking "What sane person spends their spare time painting an exhaust manifold silver?"

Not really convinced about the concours thing. Having only attended one national rally, I thought it would be useful to wander round the whole thing seeing what was what.

As I did so on judging day, I came across the "Nut Polishers". There was a white traveller there that I had seen coming off a trailer the day before (can't be a real car then, obviously just for show :-? ), and there was another car having its' nuts polished by a grey haired elderly gentleman, who broke off from his ministering at one point to sharply chastise his (wife?) other half for not packing enough cleaning cloths! :oops:

I get loads of fun and pleasure driving my mog and talking to others that you meet. Perhaps you can get the same pleasure from nut-polishing... :o

I think our concours entrants do as well, I know I do. In fact so much so that at least two have taken their cars on MOT. Perhaps you would like to come this year and talk to at least one of them :wink:

As Bill said in cant have been an entrant as they all have to driven there.
I dont have a concours car either and although our chairmans Traveller is called a Show Queen it is driven 3,000 miles or so to shows each year and has done over 150,000 miles as he`s owned it since it was 6 months old but I do admire the dedication which I do not have, and they are a tremendous reference point.

Bill, I would love to come on the MOT event (and given the extensive works I've had done on the old girl I've no doubt she'd make it). Only problem there is TIME, time off work, time away from wife and kids etc, and before you say "bring 'em along", my wife wouldn't put up with it. She just about puts up with the oil stains (from both old cars) on the block paving! :roll:

I wouldn't say that Roger :wink: I would just class it as pride in your vehicle....
I tend to keep my engine bay in immaculate condition and obviously the rest of the car.. infact I have the Moggy in my garage at the moment with all the engine ancillaries removed and am in the process of re-painting under the bonnet area:-? that's why I'm driving the A35 at the mo....
BTW, a few of my mates laugh at the cleanliness of the engine etc; because I never lift the bonnet when I'm at a show.... it's only for my benefit......

It don't take long to keep it clean & serviced :-?
This will be the first time in 2 yrs since I painted the engine bay etc; I always think that if you look after it the car will look after you :wink: I like to keep everything clean then you don't end up with filthy hands all the time, however... I am not a 'nut polisher' and use my cars a lot regardless of the weather, especially along muddy country lanes :lol:
The Moggy's never let me down in 2 1/2 years and 23K :wink:
