4 Door Rear Doors (again)

Post by rupert »

I've been spending a lot of time tidying up the gutter and rear arch and decided to trial fit the rear door and it didn't fit! (should have checked before I did all the filling etc!), so I "adjusted it" a little.

Then I tried another door (from a later car) and it appears to be about 5 mm longer! On further inspection, the doors are the same length, but the hinge on the newer door is much deeper. Are there 2 different types?

Any tips on removing the hinges so I can swap them over?

thanks

Rupert

I had a problem with the door side of the hinges on the back doors. In the end I drilled the heads off and carefully removed the studs with a mole wrench and a bit of heat and penetrating oil.

My impact driver has eaten the heads of the screws! I think I will be using drill now!

I'm starting to understand the popularity of 2 doors!

Rupert I had not heard of the problem before but a few monthe ago I heard of a similar issue with a Traveller where the owner chaged the hinges and the door was now too big for the gap so it looks like there must be 2 thickness of hinges around, I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this issue.
Cheers
