Series II axle

Post by Onne »

Is there any way how I can recognize a Series II axle?

My 54 must be the slowest accelerating vehicle in the area!

I have to change gear three time before I hit 20mph

I would like to know if I have the feeble 5.286:1 one.

Dear Onne,

you could always do the "low tech" test....

Jack up one rear wheel, then count the revolutions of the prop shaft for 1 revolution of the rear wheel (remember that the differential will double/halve the ratio because only one wheel rotates.)

Probably not an attractive option this weather - lying on the ground though.

All the best,

Colin

High ratio axle usually equates to excellent acceleration - it's engine power that's lacking!! Or the brakes are stuck on ?

no, brakes are fine. Just shifting up that often at low speeds.

I think I do have a series II axle, as only the engine was changed.

I'll find out on friday, when I head down to London
Only new kickplates to put on now

Remember - these cars were sold new as 'family' cars - and had to be able to take everyone plus luggage on holiday!! Hence the relatively low overall gearing. With a standard engine it could barely cope.

YEs, I can believe that. Chrissie's car, the sidevalve, felt so much smoother, and far better than this combo.

I'll get used to it, I might go out in a bit for a test drive, and see waht speed she cruises at
