2007 Competition

Post by jonathon »

Okay, now's your chance. We intend on holding an annual competition for new, original designs for any of the Minor models. From seating, incar entertainment, mods to engine, drivetrain, brakes, special tools, etc the sky is the limit.
We are not asking for formal drawn up designs (although we will not refuse them) but just ideas which we can carry forward to production on behalf of the winning entrant. There is no upper or lower age limit and you can enter as many ideas as you wish.
The closing date will be end of feb07, so get thinking, now!!! :D :D
Either reply using this messageboard or contact us direct.

Good luck

Well the prize is two fold ,as I stated the item/s will be put into production on behalf of the winning entrant, which would also include a % of the profits.

Naturally the winner will receive a free item.
Just bear in mind that the idea is to produce a high volume sale and not a one off.

I have a few ideas that I will post when I've thought them through a bit better.

There we go, Minor 3000........

Who would be producing the new, winning design Morris Minor?

Not me, I just draw stuff. I guess I could come up with some fun things, but nothing serious enough to be considered as a design needing production.

Jonathon, have you considered a glassfibre hardtop for convertibles - make them totally useable all year round. Or, given the popularity of the crossflow - a complete diy fitting kit. Or a glassfibre insert for vans, pickups and travellers to protect interior.

Hi Pete, the hard top definately but not until my trav is finished. I will be doing this to my dedicated racer, near the end of the year ,funds permiting. The crossflow, yes, it will be available soon.
The trouble with large sized projects is time and setting up cost, hence the real need for any ideas to be considered to be simple and cheap to produce yet provide a meaningfull function. A simple special tool or tooling to make jobs easier is the sort of ideas we would favour.

I know its dull but how about Wheelarch liners

or

a device to go inside the heater ram tube that would close off the outside air while opening a flap inside the car so you can heat up the car quicker.

Agreed - I would buy one.

Also - to move the front seat in a Minor by 1 inch means unscrewing 4 bolts. How about a set of sliding brackets (using the existing holes in the floorpan) which allows the seat to move 3-4 inches like the seat in a modern car.

Pete
Bit of a recurring theme, this one. I first heard of it some ten years ago, with Martin Dooner from the MM Parts Co (remember them!?) who had converted a number of saloons and thus had lots of spare steel roofs to use as models to work from. Then of course he went on to other things and I guess the idea just dropped.
At the 2000 National I canvassed opinion on exactly this, spoke to literally hundreds of people over the weekend. Disappointed, and pretty stunned, with the result - only a handful of people expressed any interest at any price. Seemed like convertible owners were happy to garage their droptops over winter months.
Then, if memory serves me right, I had exactly the same conversation with Jonathon himself some time last year! On the one hand, if the idea keeps on coming back up, you'd think there must be sufficient interest to make a product viable. But on the other, if it really was a genuine 'goer', wouldnt someone have done it already?
