New Owner

Post by Chadbrook »

Hello This is my first post as I've only just aquired my first Minor and I'm trying to find out as much about it as possible, its a 2 door right hand drive saloon first registered in March 1963.

The Chassis number from the plate on the right hand side of the engine bay is Z52509 406612. This does not seem to conform to a standard Minor number is it a special production ? maybe for the MOD, police force or for export ?

The engine number is IOMA-U-H 10453 if this is of any help.

Anyone know what I have bought :)

Do you not have the Morris Motors plate, situated on the bulkhead in front of where the driver sits? This should start 2S5A or something similar, ending in a 7 digit number starting with a 1. If you have the V5 logbook it should also show this number.

The only identification on the bulkhead in the engine bay is a punched metal strip on the near (passenger) side with the above number on it, the car appears to be pretty genuine from what I can see and it doesnt appear to have had a full respray or any filling where a Morris Motors plate should be, I think it must have been a "Friday afternoon" car and never had its identification plate fitted.

You are correct regarding the V5, this does list the chassis number which does corespond to standard Minor identification codes for this car.

Many thanks :)

The chassis number should also be stamped on the bulkhead next to where the bonnet release rod comes through. It might be fairly well hidden under paint/rust.

This is where the number should be stamped.

In theorey if the car doesn't show the Chassis number (which they now like to call VIN) it can't get an MOT - they have to physically confirm the MOT is being issued to the correct car. So - if there really is no plate you need to make something up and fix it to the car - or clan up the stamped in marks shown above so they can be easily read.

That only applies to cars made before around 1983, although its good to have one.
Once you have found it on the bulkhead and it matches your logbook you should not have mot problems but if unsure take the logbook along with you.

Welcome to the board Chadbrook. :D

To get a picture up in your signature you have to link the image to one you have uploaded onto a website.... um fuller destructions are included somewhere in here: http://www.morrisminoroc.co.uk/index.ph ... pic&t=9028

In short, you upload your picture to a website (e.g. www.flickr.com). Right click the picture, go to 'properties' and copy the URL address (be careful you get the whole thing). Go to your profile, paste the URL and sandwich it between [img]and[/img]
Hope that solves your problem.

Write a comment with the image tag you want to try in it, then use the preview button instead of submit. Also I think if you change your signature it shows up on all your old posts as well as new ones.

Yes that's right - it should update your old posts with your new sig, so no need to keep posting.

I think I know what the problem might be... are you trying to stick your signature in your 'postnuke profile'. It wont work if you are - you need to put it directly into your profile - i.e the box just under the 'refresh your postnuke profile' button at the top of the first page you get when you enter your profile from the main messageboard.
Hope that makes sense?!

Relfy, I am going to read all of the instructions and will sort it out I promise lol BUT I do have another theory, Thingy's registration number might explain it all AFK... she was never meant to be seen here <laffin> and is I must admit she is luring me away 8)
Gawd now I have to read instructions to be a Morris owner... and I thought they came from an era when males didnt need instructions <laffin>

I think my AFK theory is proving correct... err whats a postnuke profile ? and multiple pages of profile ?.... I only have one Morris <laffin>... or is it maybe because im only a newbie and not a member yet ?

numbers

Post by Willie »

Chadbrook, the number on the passenger side bulkhead is a 'body' number
used in production, it is not the chassis number. Your 10MA-U-H......engine
number prefix indicates 1098cc high compression but the chassis number
doesn't relate to the normal Minor type.

I have checked in the engine compartment again and I was wrong, the fixing holes for the chassis plate are there but no plate, unfortunately I did this before I saw Roger's comment about the number being stamped onto the bulkhead itself so not checked this yet but as the car has an MOT I would think the number will be there.
Obviously the best thing to do would be to get a replacement chassis plate, I know the chassis number from the V5 but where can I get a blank plate or a plate with my number on it ? is it something I can buy from a Morris specialist ? I would like it to be at least similar to the orginal plate.

Thanks for all of the information

Chad :)

Thanks Onne... have to see what my MOT man makes of her and yes get a chassis plate anyway.... am starting to wonder why someone would remove it though... shes a sound car, im sure its original paintwork, you carnt fake age cracks in paint like she has... and you carnt match original paint that old (shes not shiny) not looked under her yet but on top and wheel arches are only surface rust.. the only place that looks a bit iffy is the boot lid at the bottom... a common minor thing and hardly anything to worry about... im sure all will be revealed in time... for now shes great fun to drive and my sons love her too... :D

As they are only held on with self tapping screws its not unknown for them to fall off and dissapear.
