Hi,
The Idea with Polodiscs is from Sweden a magazine called Wheels they had an articel about it back in 78.
I am currently doing the same conversion. I had to enlarge to hole in disc for it to fit the hub. I am going to use Golf typ1 calipers since they are easier (and cheaper) to find. It seems to work. I will confirm tomorrow.

Very, very early Golfs had a different calliper made by a well known brake manufacturer (sorry -memory aint what it used to beI am going to use Golf typ1 calipers

The casting mark is easy to find on the caliper so you can check Mk2 Golfs, All Scirocco's Mk3 Polo's as well. I can't guarantee Mk2 Golf has the right caliper mounting bracket but the other listed cars should have the right one.

I am almost certain they are not VW1 or VW11 style calipers. I have never handled a caliper with the horizontal ridge at the back like the one shown in the photo. Also the pads are a different shape being much shorter . The VW1 and VW11 pads are wider and have carrier mounting lips on the end.Hi,

So although the Mk1, 2 and 3 Polo are basically the same vehicle the brakes on the Mk 1 must have been specific to that model.After doing quite a lot of research I finally found out, that the discs and the calipers of the Volkswagen Polo 1.1 (1975-1981) will be suitable to convert the Morris Minor to disc brakes.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.
I checked the other caliper and it was marked ATE E2992 and VW and Audi logo on it.

By the way they seem to fit perfectly! I tried i with the wheel on.

I decided to mount the caliper on the other side instead the it will be easier with brakehose.

Hard to believe these discs fit straight on - the wheel stud pcd will not be 4" - is there a little bit of filing involved to make them fit ? And a 5mm screw holding them in place seems a bit small - but I appreciate when the wheel is clamped up that too holds the disc. Are longer wheel studs needed too ? I assume these calipers will have a metric flexi pipe connection - maybe m10 x1 ? Excellent drawing of the caliper fixing plate - just what we need !! Is anyone on here in a position to make these plates and supply to the rest of us - at a charge of course ! And has anyone come up with a source of these discs at a lowish price ? There are some on ebay - but prices vary quite a lot. Are the discs the 239 mm diameter ones ?

Since the wheelstuds on the Polo have larger diameter it is no problem. the pcd on the Polo is 4x100.
The caliper seems to have the same pipe connection as orignal brakcylinder because the orignsl hose fits in the caliper.
I didnt modify the hub anything just the disc.
Here in sweden this is the most common solution for upgrading Minor brakes and som people has used it since -78 without any problem.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.
The engineering of this disc conversion interests me - I have already 'pioneered' a conversion on my Mini which uses Fiesta single pot calipers and allows me to run 10" wheels with excellent disc brakes - far better than the ghastly standard Mini calipers. If I can put together this disc set-up inexpensively I may (or may not) use them - but I certainly cannot fault my nice big Wolseley drums !!

I mentioned this type of conversion some time ago - not using VW, but Fiat - my friend did it 20 years ago and it was pretty straightforward requiring a caliper carrier and a disc that fitted over wheel studs.
If a more modern fitment is available, then it wouldn't be difficult to get parts machined up by any reasonable machine shop, or enthusiastic individual - 1/4 plate, drill, hacksaw and file - better christmas gift than a 'deal or no deal' game - and would give you some exercise to boot
