Place for CD changer

Ok, so we have the new stereo and CD player, I am about to upgrade to put speakers in the front (no problem) and a 12 CD changer. Where should I put the changer? Options so far

1) Under seat (I have Newton Comm. seats) - not easy to get at.
2) on the parcel shelf - will have to make a special bracket for it.
3) In the boot - sounds good, but again will need a bracket.

Anyone done this? If so where did you put it? Its a Pioneer that can be mounted anyway up.

I'd suggest the boot. Run a cable under the carpet and around/under the rear seat, or underneath the floor and up through a grommet.

12-disc changers are quite large units, and would take a lot of space away from the parcel shelf. Also, they're quite heavy, and it's only cardboard.

The unit should have come with mounting brackets, I think? The SONY one's do anyway.

If not, then VELCRO is the way to go. Trust me, it works!

Sadly, I haven't got around to fitting a cd changer yet - lack of funds, time, &c.

If I manage it, then mine will go in the boot. You could take the time to carpet your boot, too?

If it's in the car, it may get nicked - if it's locked in your boot it is much less likely (unless you have a traveller where the boot is less protected)
Also consider your insurance! Do they cover you for this level of electrical equipment?

I've no idea how big a 12 disc changer is (VHF? never heard of it old chap

), but would it fit under the rear seat base?

Again, it depends on the size of the unit and how often you'll need to access it, but you could reinforce the parcel shelf, and fit a blank facia screen (lockable) over it.

That would reduce the cable run to the power and radio unit (assuming that that's going in the passenger's glove box.

Inside the boot the undeside of the parcel shelf behind the back seat would surely be big enough. A CD changer bolted to this wouldn't get in the way of luggage and probably wouldn't be immediately visible even if someone did get in there.

I'm not sure that that bit is big enough - some disc changers I've seen have been quite large - I found these sizes on the net:

Dimensions: (mm) W257 x H94 x D170

It would have to sit in the middle of the area, and frankly I'd prefer it flat on the boot floor, where you could at least put stuff on top of it.

Perhaps vertical against the (non-leaking!) inner-wing?

The rear seat base would make it difficult to change the CDs. Granted, with 12 in there, you aren't going to change them often, but if it's difficult, it might not get done...!

Your insurance company, as Ray says, may wish to know about it. I'm covered for £500 on stereo equipment as standard on the AON policy. Not too shoddy, although my stereo doesn't come anywhere near that figure... Best to check, though.

Don't know the dimensions of course but, if it is small enough,
could you cut a suitable aperture in the wooden boot floor,hinge
it and fit the changer under it?

It's probably not relevant to you, but have a pickup, QED no boot. Made a plywood shelf for under the dash and mounted the changer under that in the passenger footwell - out of sight from outside the car...
