Asbestos

After merrily bolting (sawing/hammering/catching) bits on and off my 1962 traveler for 15 years, not to mention driving it. Do any bits contain asbestos? I know that old break pads and clutch plates did but what about all that interior trim?

My 1963 Traveller has an asbestos heat shield above the exhaust underneath the front passenger's feet.

My engine drain plug washer is a copper/asbestos composite too (I think the newer ones are just copper).

Thank you. For years that bulk head sound deadening thing has been depositing dust all over my feet untill a couple of months ago when I pulled it out in a fit of parinoia. Then today I was looking up buying some millboard and found references to asbestos (but I think it is a different type of millboard).

I'm fairly certain the sound-deadening blanket isn't asbestos and I doubt they will have used any in the seat cushions - there were cheaper and more suitable materials they could use where they didn't need high temperature resistance. I'm not totally sure about the white fabric straps that tie the exhaust to the body, so I've been cautious about not disturbing them.

I was told that the heatshield is asbestos, I think I read it in one of the books

Yes, you can clearly see the board under the ends of the steel cover. Should be safe enough as long as it's not disturbed. I've been very careful while I've been wire-brushing the rust off the floorpan around it...

The new ones from the suppliers will not be made of asbestos, but the old ones probably are.
