Lo, I am in contact with a chap called
Reinhard who wanted to know which Minors
used the 3inch and 3 1/2 inch rims. Since i
have always known Minor wheels as 4J and
4 1/2J I told him they were not standard.
Now that I have measured my wheels I find that they ARE 4 inches across edge to edge
but only 3 inches inner wall to inner wall.
I always understood that the 'J' measurement
is from INNER wall to INNER wall of the rim
(i.e. where the tyre sidewalls touch). this
would make the MInor wheels 3J and 3 1/2J
Am I wrong???
Willie

Ummm, This gets more confusing, it seems to me that the wheels are wrongly called 4 1/2J
(late vans 1968 onwards....8 hundredweight)
when the 4 1/2 measurement is outer edge to
outer edge. This is not a correct "J" measurement. I also think that van wheels are the same as the cars until the advent of
the 8cwt van?? The 1098cc cars and vans had 5-20X14 tyres but I don't think the wheels
were any wider.
