It seems Joe's problems go beyond the carb. Now he has no spark at the plugs. There is a spark at the points though. I found this by accident when I tried to remove the points to check them - they arced across to the dizzy body because my helper had left the ignition on
So where's the problem coming from and is it related to the previous issue where, repeatedly, the engine revs would drop and 5-10 secs later the car stall. Obviously I have checked the plug leads and coil connections. But could it be a duff coil?
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.
Could be coil - test it with a meter - then plug one of the plug leads into the centre post and fit a spark plug lying on the block where you can see it - then move the points to see if the plug sparks. If not - duff condenser/points/low voltage lead or coil. If it sparks - then check the dizzy cap - signs of tracking/carbon brush loose/ too short/ stuck in the housing/spark collectors corroded or burned away - and check the rotor arm - good fit on the spindle/not loose/cracked/tracking/burnt to h3ll at the end. Best really to test by substitution with known good bits. Could also be broken connections inside the HT leads !!
Well I got him going - no idea what it was amongst the plethora of checks I made.
However, it sounds like he's running on three cylinders now. all the leads have been swapped and changed for others. It could be the mixture of course so there's still that to check when daylight returns.

No. I removed them 1 by 1 to see which, if any, was misfiring.
It would seem, after 10 minutes running on the driveway that there was a problem in the supply to No2 sparkplug. Hopefully it was only damp as there is no sign of fracturing in the cap and the lead had been replaced.

If you get a big spark between the points when opening them, the condensor could be duff. Shouldn't be more than a fairly small and slightly audible crack of a spark normally.
I finally gave in and bought one of those light up HT tester things (goes between lead and plug), was only about £2.50 and has saved me a lot of time and messing around already Worth thinking about for irritating jobs like this.
