Propshafts for Fiat Twincam conversions

We were advised not to use the two piece prop from the Fiat donor car.
The folk who make our props are Dave Mac Propshafts in Coventry. They have produced many 'one' piece units which incorporate the gearbox end flange modified to take a Ford UJ, then a single tube back to the diff UJ, this eliminates any vibration, as found with the two piece unit. I will confirm with them tommorow but I believe they said that Jaguar had a similar g/box flange which they could use. The problem apparently with the two piece unit is the operating angles of the UJ's themselves which if I remember correctly should only operate
at between 22-24 degree angle. I have a proper tech drawing of our props, which I can look out for tommorow and mail to someone here to post on the forum.

just to add my penneth worth. I use the split FIAT propshaft and it's no problem at all. In fact I quite like the split prop as it is secured part way along. Though to be fair the middle doughnut needs to be in good shape.

I made up my prop myself from the FIAT item, bit of metal work and some welding, with a Ford end for the diff connection. Had it balanced and it's never been a problem and doesn't vibrate or rumble.

However I have only ever made the one so my experience is limited, probably better off with a specialist. Though I still think the FIAT prop is fine to start with.

Hi,

BTW 1)- I have a spare Fiat prop-shaft (gearbox) spider available for sale if anyone wants it.
Please note this is NOT a complete prop-shaft.

BTW 2)- I was advised when I ordered my prop that if you still use the original Fiat rubber doughnut on the back of the gear-box then you should use a 2-piece prop.
With a one-piece prop the drive angle on the doughnut is too great!
