Water and leaves under back seat!

Post by Nimrod »

67 Traveller. I was putting the rear seat down yesterday when I noticed under the circular-holed plate just at the rear of where the squab hinges forward, that there was water in there on the passenger side of the prop tunnel. Also, at the side end of the space were some dead leaves and muck. Now I've been underneath, can't see any holes, and the underside has been well waxoiled and sealed. Can anyone suggest where this water might be getting in? And the leaves....should be a pretty big hole for LEAVES to get in, considering that the seat is over the top all the time....

Thanks

The only big hole that I can think of is the one at the rear (called the back doors). Did you or a prevoius owner carry leaves to the tip?

ROTFL!

Well I haven't carried leaves, although I suppose the previous owner may have, although as his garden was 99% decking it's a long shot......

His garden might have decking, but did his neighbours?

Did you see any trees above the fence?

In all seroiusness, the floor of the trav slopes from above the axle to where you say the water is collecting. It could be any part of the floor pan. Are there any marks to see? After dark, could try shining a torch from underheath and see if any light is visable from the inside. It only needs a hole the size of a pinprick.

First things first - drill some drain holes in these areas to let the water out.
Water tends to come down not up (unless you drive through a river) so most likely is window chanels or a leak where the wood meets the panels. Water leaking into the car anywhere between the rear floor pan and the back axle will end up under the back seat as it's the lowest point.

It can also squeeze past the window shuts at the wood attached to the B post, look very closely and see if you can see a water mark trace to show where its coming from, it will be feint and might be running behind the trim somewhere.

My traveller had water in the same place it was due to a big hole in the flange inside of the rear wing. I bought a replacement panel and had to cut in in half to fit it.
