My car's history

I'd love to find out some more about my car.

Is there any public archive, other than the DVLA?
My goal is to get to know what happened between wednesday 16 november 1955 and friday 28 january 1983.

My guess is that there was only one owner, but who knows?

The details for the car:
Black series II with maroon interior, which are correct according to the HTC
Registration VWJ 590

I am currently the fourth owner.
Previously in Loughton, Essex
Owner two from 28/01/1983- 01/06/1991
Owner three from 01/06/1991- 28/02/1999
Owner four (me) from then onwards. Unofficially :P

Any ideas very welcome indeed
