Just been MOTed today (and passed, thankyou!) but found that on the new system where you have to log into the DVLA that they'd couldn't find my Traveller!
Mr Tester asks Have you got your V5 on you? Well, of course not! Apparently old cars aren't there and have to be entered in. Corr! My 1961 Trav's never been off the road, so its been taxed EVERY year and MOT'd since that started, and even with all that history its not in the new system!
Anyway, Mr Tester kindly completed the test so I could go home with a clear concience and find the V5, come back, have the DVLA entered into and then waited 40 minutes for the test to be notionally done. Corr!

PS. If like me, you've forgotten what a V5 looks like its really a V5C and its A5 size and blue with Regitstration Certificate white writing on the front.

Seems a bit strange the carry on you had :roll: you say the cars not been off the road, so what did you do last test ?
We've had this type of test up here for well over a year, so I have two of the new test certs; the same thing happened to me though, I had to go home and get the reg; doc;.. seems strange really that they seem to know nothing of older cars :roll:

The VIN number of old cars is not in the standardised format so can't be looked up unless the MOT tester is a computer wizz kid / hacker.
Bringing the V5 is really helpful - or for next year bring your previous MOT certificate.

An added problem is that the Minor VIN plate can be hard to read after 40+ years and unless the MOT tester gets the VIN added on the MOT correctly (e.g. by reading it off the V5C) then you will have major hassle trying to get tax.

PS. If like me, you've forgotten what a V5 looks like its really a V5C and its A5 size and blue with Regitstration Certificate white writing on the front.
It's A3 size in case anyone pedantic was reading the thread (double A4 size when unfolded)

I had a similar thing last week. Last years MOT was the old-fashioned type, this years at the same place could not go ahead because the computer insisted on the chassis number. (Rusty plate disappeared years' ago.) Only option is to get it from the V5 which I hadn't brought with me so have to go back at some point.

the plate is not actually required - despite what you may be told. The rule only applies to post 1985 cars...
Not that it is a good idea to have the plate missing! The boys in blue can take a strong dislike to that.
