Gearbox problems

1960 Traveller with 1275 and a 1098 ribcase gearbox, there is a problem - when shifting down from 3rd or 4th gear into 2nd the gearbox will jump out of 2nd. When going up though the gears 1st to 2nd no problem. Does anybody have any idea what would cause this??????????

Yes - knackered syncromesh on the 2nd gear - has allowed the little 'dog' teeth that actually transmit the drive to become worn - needs a rebuild really. Generally not economic - look for a good replacement box.
