Location of header filler tank and break + Clutch fillers.

Post by heathy12 »

Right. As you might have seen in the electrical section ive almost finished my wiring. Next job is some plumbing.

Belows a picture of my engine bay.
For those that have a header tank, brake top up, clutch top up and a servo.

Ive had a scout round and cant decided where to fit these items. First thoughts would be to mount the header tank on the bulkhead behind the wiper motor, the fillers ive thought about fitting on the drivers side panel by the stegnthener panel (mirror image to the wiper motor mount point)

Again if anyones got these things fitted and can give any advice as to where best to fit em that'd be great. DOnt wanna fit em then find out theres a good reason not to put em there!

Cheers.

Photo shows location of brake top up reservoir.
I previously mounted this closer to the wing but the connection on the bottom of the reservoir leaks slightly and brake fluid ends up on floor of engine compartment and strips paint. Now I have tried to seal the leak but as an added precaution I have mounted the reservoir outside of the line of engine compartment floor so that any future leaks drop onto the ground.
I dont know where you bought your reservoir from but there are places that sell more robust ones with better connections than rubber tube and plastic ties, in my opinion they are worth the extra you dont want to spoil all that nice new paintwork in the engine compartment!

Nice engine bay but could you shrink the photo a little as its a bit large, and for the better reservoirs you should try

That's a BIG fan you have on there! Must take several horse power. Far bigger than is needed on a Minor - why not just use the standard 2 blade fan - and the standard Minor radiator ?

Well I never! where have we heard about problem products before?????
Guess what.. Yep ... it's the same problem. That's 7 out of 8 failed as far as I know. Can anybody tell me of any reliable top up cylinders from the 'cheap' kit?
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

Its the standard Marina fan and radiator. :-?

I don't have a minor Rad or fan to use, anyway im sure the marina fans a Lot lighter than the minor item as item plastic also I think the radiator will be a lot more effieient than the minor item also. Got a lot of room too to fit a kenlowe fan at some point which is the plan.

Ive got the clutch and brake top up kits to fit, have offered them up for a trial fit as per daves photo and I dont have enough room for both of them there. Guess what i'll be doing is aralditing the bottoms on!

Have you converted to hydraulic clutch then - because Minor has mechanical clutch as standard. The weight of the fan is not important - it's the air shifting capability - and that looks like it will make the car take off!

Yup, ive got the dreaded Marina gearbox and have to clobber together piping to go from the marina slave cylinder to a spitfire servo going upto a remote filler for the clutch.
Now im not too sure But IIRC the marina didnt have a clutch top up, it just had a bleed coming off of the slave cylinder. Im guessing that a refill point on the good side of the servo will be ok and not under much pressure to force the fluid out.

Oh, and this mornign I had a brainwave and am just about to go out and see if the two re-fill points can be mounted in the back of the car somehow in the boot.

The fan is dead light and im sure its capable of doing the job, the whole setup from a marina is now installed in my car so it'll be all rated and setup as it should be. I didnt really want to go for the minor radiator and fan as A, I didnt have one! and B, it looks neater with the marina items IMO. But Like I say, ive got room for an electric fan now so if I do have any probs with overcooling or too much flow I can easily fit the fan if I can find one!

Ah - marina box. Good luck then - sounds like a nightmare. I just think that big fan will be v noisy and will rob power - it will certainly cool. leccy fan is probably best way to go.
