Interior lights

Post by alex_holden »

Apparently there are two kinds of interior light - early and late. When was the changeover date? My mid-1963 Traveller has only a hole in the headlining with three wires dangling out of it. I'm guessing this is the early type and this is the late type, is that right? Which one do I need, and does it even matter (ie are they interchangeable)?

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Yes it looks like you have the right order for those lights, and the changeover date didnt mean the car had all the later bits as they still used up whatever old stock they had to hand which is why cars from that time often vary.

Is there anyone here with a car earlier than mid-1963 who has the later type of light, or has a car later than that date with the early type light? Would it help identify which type I need if I post a photo and dimensions of the hole? I'm still working under the assumption that the two aren't easily interchangeable...

My car is a '68 but has the earlier type interior light (I didn't realise it was the wrong type until you posted the photos up!).

It looks like it's been there a long time, and fits perfectly, so they could be interchangeable.

I see, thanks. I'll probably try bidding on the later type one; fingers crossed that it fits OK :)

For future reference, the later type interior light fits perfectly in a mid-1963 Traveller.

Neither of the door switches worked, but a spare new one came with the car, and I managed to fettle the other with wire brush and WD40. We have light!
