Hi there,
I´ve got a question concerning a piston set, that i´ve just bought. They are Hepolites, Number 16179/V1. The size is 2,542" and were sold to fit a Morris/Austin 1098.
They look kind of strange, with 3 PistonRings at the top and one at the bottom end of the piston. Can anyone tell me, if they fit my Moggy.
The bore size is correct for 1098 A series engine - standard, not oversize bore. The ring configuration is normal for hepolite aftermarket pistons - attempt to control oil consumption. Unfortunately - increases internal engine friction quite considerably.
MORRIE would be a better term for a Morris Minor.
Anyway - it's just a bit of fun - and it made you all sit up!! And I answered the piston query - which no one else has bothered to do so far!
Thank you very much for your answers.
Last night I did a little more research in the internet and found some companies, which offer Hepolite pistons with the number 16179 (without the additional "V1"). They are sold to fit a 1098 Midget/Sprite with a cr of 8.9:1
So I suggest this will also be the right choice for my Traveller??
Thank you again,
Bengt

Yes - the Sprite 1098 pistons should be fine - unless they are for the very last of the Spridget engines which had bigger main bearings - and used conrods like (but not same as) the Cooper S - with bigger press-fit gudgeon pins.
Well it's not so much as 'can't be bothered' as the question had been replied to!! I can add some more info to keep bm happy though: the Hepolite number quoted seems to refer to a piston with 3 compression rings and 2 oil controls not 1 as mentioned, the V1 on the end might be the difference though. My info also suggests that the piston is not well suited to sustained high revs.
