New Battery

Hi there I'm new to the morris minor scene and was just wondering where the best place is to get a new battery for my 1967 morris minor 1000? Thanks, Soph

Well, I bought mine from Halfords over six years ago and it is still going strong, I presume that they still do a suitable type but if not you should have
a local battery supplier. If you have a Makro store near you I notice that they do a suitable battery for under £25 with a three year guarantee.

Brilliant thank you I'll be making a trip this weekend, makro probably easiest. What type should I be looking for as in Halfords they seemed to have nothing specifically for morrises?

The physical dimensions are not a problem as the battery compartment on
the morris is extremely large. What you have to watch for is the size of the
battery contacts which are tapered round posts as there are many totally different types. Just compare your selection with your present unit.

Try and find a black one! They look nicer!

I printed a Vintage label on my computer and stuck it on mine.

I know its sad, but I little touches like that.

I got one from my local motor factor for £20 - good as any I think.

The Macro one's are black!

They are also a very good battery

. The first one i bought from there was about 4 years ago and its still going strong. 038 is the type that is recommended for the Minor, but i always go for the 067 or 069 as they fill the battery tray well and give the extra cranking power in the winter. Before anyone ask's, no, it hasn't led to any problems by fitting a higher rated battery!

Last one i got was about £25 plus VAT.

No I did the same, I think mines a 45 amps an hour battery and it cranks brilliantly.

I always fitted a bigger one too... Last one came from a mate's 1.8 Renault 19 he was scrapping so was a reasonably big beast...

Certainly helps in the winter, even with only short runs original charging gear (not alternator) I never really needed to put it on the charger.

I had a 72Ah battery in mine all winter. I measured the tray, and it should even fit a 88Ah one.
Now on 44Ah btw
