I might bid on this.

Does it matter about there not being a bypass adaptor? other than needing a new water pump?

Do 12G940 normally have a bypass hose?

This message board is like a family - you can't choose the other members!! But remember engine oil is thicker than water.

Be glad it has no bypass - after all these years Rover finally got rid of the wretched thing! Just drill a couple of 1/8" holes in the rim of the thermostat to allow the water to circulate slightly.

Agreed. Get a Metro water pump (cheaper than a Minor/ Mini one last time I bought one) that in theory has a higher flow rate anyway, drill half a dozen 3/8" (IMO) holes in the stat, and never be cursed with failing bypass hoses again :)

NO - far too many and too big holes ! In fact - in winter if you are prepared to always keep the heater tap open (and who doesn't) then NO holes are needed - and the heater works better than ever. In summer - 2 holes each 1/8" dia are fine.

Yes, but some of the later mini ones dont and the metro ones dont, just one other point with that head you will have to drill out the hole for the heater valve as its blanked off, if you look at the photo its quite clear.
Cheers
