Crankshaft pulley nut
Could someone tell me what size the nut that holds the crankshaft front pulley on with is? I need to buy a larger spanner as my biggest won't fit but I don't know what size to buy.

3/4 Whitworth (same as 7/8 BS)
Just don't confuse the numbers with AF!! Whitworth sizes were a standard based on bolt diameter (ie it is the size of spanner required a 7/8" dimater bolt)
Many people complain about these 'wierd' sizes but the system was extremely logical and very well engineered. The use of the standard spanner size per bolt size would help prevent people from over-torquing their fasteners, therefore safer!

Well it worked fine for me, plus it does mean you only have to buy one spanner rather than a number of different ones - handy when you're skint

Yes both of them were a real pain - I had to bash away with a mallet to get the pulley nut off, and had to drill/chisel off the cam pulley wheel (I have a spare).
