quarterlight lets in water - lots of it!

my quarterlight lets in lots of water. was going to order new seals, but the old one looks fine - the glass just seems a bit too small for the aperture! perhaps the seals arent fine - are new ones really really thick?

any advice appreciated!!

Sure it's not just coming round the front edge of the door frame ? Unusual for qlight to leak - usually very tight.

lol i can see through the gap between the quarterlight and the window frame. the water just flies through

Quarterlights can leak if the orginal rubber is perished and hard (like on the drivers side of my traveller!)

But you said the seals looked fine ! Now you have a gap.
Will be at Biggar classic car show - and again at Scone - if you are going. And of course the RSAC run on 19 August - which you should not miss - although jumpy 3rd gear may not be a good idea - lots of steep ascents and descents!

Make sure you get the right part - there re two IIRC. The front section is thick and forms the diagonal front edge and bottom. It's a real pig to fit as the hinge pieces have to come out. Best use a bucket of hot soapy water and soak the seal first to help ease it in. The rear section is much simpler and easy peasy to push in place.

have been looking - its up at the top that theres a big gap
the passenger one doesnt have a visible gap but lets in tonnes of water too!
and it rains a lot up here, normally

I had a similar problem on my driver's side one - huge gap at the top, let in water in heavy rain. Eventually I got fed up of trying to work out what's wrong and taped it up on both sides of the door. Doesn't leak now!

its a 1940s design, pobably impossile to stop the water, ive fitted new rubbers, massive gap, vertical gap, im gonna seal em up before the winter, dont fancy fitting new sills again,steve

Mine had a gap in too.. I just bent the hinges a bit to get around it.
Another 'bodge' would be to straighten the metal frame a bit - means pulling it off the glass a little though, just don't pull it off too much else the glass will drop out!

used some spare thick bootlid rubber - glued into position, will see how it sticks and if it works! yet another little bodge!
