Load capacity and more

Post by Onne »

Hello all

As some of you know, I'l be moving to the UK next week.

Problem is, I have got a lot of stuff to carry in my Minor

How much can I load?

I need to take my reconditioned sidevalve engine with me as well, what would be the best place to put it?

So much stuff, so litle room

I need to take:
All my clothes (a lot!)
A sidevalve engine
a computer
a 17" flatscreen
a 26" LCD TV
Some tools, multimeter etc
a box of stuff (1ft x 2ft by 1,5ft)
My complete set of plates, cups, glasses and cutlery

A challenge to say the least!

No, she is filled up completely, and she misses one sill (still talking about the car, not your daughter :D), so I cannot put to much weight on the drivers side.

Did you see the pictures in t'other thread?

6 plastic boxes of bits, that don't fit in the interior. All the awkward panels are in the inside of the car (like wings, sill panels, a wheel, gearbox)

How bad would it be if I put the passenger seat up, and place it behind that, just in front of the rear seat. Nice and low (and well padded of course!)

Do you know the actual figures Bill? I have already packed my book of lies.

I am sure you could get more inside and leave the engine bay clear. You should have seen how we packed 'DUD' into Cam's car.

Well the most I've had in my minor was 5 guys (two of whom were 6'5"), plus the boot stuffed full with heavy bags. My rear springs aren't the best but it was still pretty much sitting on the bump stops the whole time, and the exhaust bashed the ground on a couple of occasions. Going, stopping and turning really wasn't much fun especially as you had to slip the clutch to get it moving.

Perhaps it might be better to arrange some alternative transport for the heavier stuff :-?

I think I've had 6 bags of gravel and 3 people in the minor; we've also done possible 6 (it may have been 5, but I've done 5 lots of times, wheras 6 sticks in my memory; they were mostly small) people. Other stupid things include filling the car almost entirely with books, filling the car with 2 office type large colour lasers, a 17"CRT, several PCs Lauren, and as much other computer equipment as would physically fit in the car.

On all these occasions the car's handled pretty lousily, but it's done very well in so far as not had any problems pulling away...

Well, Victoria (the MM) will be on a trailer, and taken to england by my parents.

My Elisabeth will be driven by yours truly, and packed with essential stuff, like clothes, computer, cutlery, printer, 26"flatscreen tv, a sidevalve engine, tools, me, and some miscellaneous* stuff

But what is the maximum load of a morris Minor, and does it matter if it almost hits the bumpstops?

There isn't a way of increasing the ride height at the back is there?

Hmm, if your parents are towing Victoria to England then why not put some of the less essential stuff you mention in their car instead?

Alternatively you could fit some 8 leaf LCV springs to Elisabeth to help take the load.

I have some extra long shackle plates which would give you just over 1" more in ride height. Just remember to take them off again !!!! :D :D

She is now fully loaded.

Leaf springs are completely flat, not curved anymore... and the bumpstops are already hitting the body. There is still some travel though, and there isn't any rot in the area.

I did think about longer shackle plates. Bit late now, I'll be off on tuesday!!!!

I will have my car weighed tomorrow. My guess is about 1100 kilos (2400lbs??)
