Urgent - how to remove wing mirror (cos it's now a bit loose

Post by Nimrod »

OK! Let me in on the joke - all I thought I had to do was to unscrew the fixing nut underneath the wing. NO! there's some sort of plastic tube ubderneath the fixing nut which doesn't seem to unscrew, the nut wont unscrew because of this tube, and the mirror and arm itself are sprung onto the mount, so if you hold the mirror arm and try, it just unsprings from the moumt.....HOW DO I GET IT OFF?

ta!

The plastic tube is to protect the spring from road muck and keep it in line. The tube "just" pulls off as you pull the nut downwards whilst unscrewing. A bit of the preverbial WD40 can help. You have to grip the round base of the mirror on top of the wing when unscrewing the nut underneath. Place some cloth on the wing to protect the paint work and also use a cloth in some mole grips to hold the base.
