Restoring a Traveller

Hi,
My wife's Traveller has just scraped through its MOT. I suspect that it won't manage many more. There have been good repairs done to the floors in the past but behind the rear axle there have been some patches welded around the rear spring hangers and along the back. Really it needs the last foot of floor replacing. Also the timber is starting to get well beyond its first flush.
I don't feel that I have the necessary skills to do the repairs myself. Two questions:
1 Should I have the repairs done sooner rather than later. i.e. I could keep patching it up, but maybe it would be better in the long-run to repair it properly.
2 Can anyone recommend someone to do the welding, replacing the timber and a respray, not too far from Scotland.

It should be done properly for the long term health of the car, sorry but I dont know anyone in your neck of the woods.

Hi.

I've got an ex UK traveller, now registered as 69 C 800. The wood is ok, but needs sanding and reworking etc, but the underneath is quite rotton in places and needs completly redoing.

But are there any does and don'ts when it comes to restoring a traveller ? The welding will be done professionally, and I intend to work on the wood myself and relace all the window seals, interior etc, but is there any aspect I should be wary off or watch out for ? General advice really ???

Hi George (g land).

Thats some job on that traveller !!! I bought one this year off a guy from Tramore. The woods ok, but its a bit rusted underneath so it needs a bit of work. I have another car, a 1962 saloon (ENI 638) but shes with Ken Bowers at the moment getting a respray and hopefully another 948cc engine (I did have a reconditioned one fitted, but an oil problem led to it dying, so I'am in the hunt yet again for a 948cc engine - if you know of one lying around let me know

). I did book into Terenure all right in the hope that my car might be ready, but its looking like I might be out of action for a while. I hope and pray to make it to Fingal though. I might email you soon when I get around to doing some work on my Traveller, as I have to do some work on the wood (stripping it down and retreating it and replacing the rear doors), so I might need some guiding advice.

i don't know where there is a 948cc but i do have a spare 1098 if your stuck

Yeah, Deepest darkest England may be a problem....... I think I may have found one in Laois in Ireland that hopefully may tide me over for a while, but I'll keep looking. Thanks for the post though. Cheers.
