Dating & parts

Post by alaskanminor »

Hello all-I am in Alaska and trying to surprise my husband with a gift of restoring our Morris Minor. I am in need of help with identification and finding parts. The plate under the hood says it is Chassis Number OFJ4/83620 (although it is a little hard to read). I always believed it was a 1960 however looking at the charts the code would date it as 1952-1958. It is a pickup and I am hoping to find parts in the US to save on shipping/carriage costs. Can anyone help? Thanks!!

pick-up

Post by Willie »

Lo, hope you are successful. Your chassis number confirms genuine left hand
drive pickup made sometime around mid 1958.

The best parts options would be great

If you don't have information on a US option for obtaining parts, can you suggest best place in the UK for parts? Thank you!

Thank you! I'll need a bit of space if I'm going to be getting yet another pick-up, but I'll swap 2 for a '58 if nobody's getting me one :D

Is a 1958 rare? My husband has owned it since 1986 while it has never been a daily runner we used to drive it occassionally. It currently has some brake issues and a broken gear in the transmission so it has been parked for a few years and need some rust repair work and a paint job. Our anniversary is coming up in a few months and I thought it would be a lovely gift to have the truck fixed up. :P

'rare' by virtue of age, as the commercial vehicles tend not to have lasted as long because they had a harder life than mollycoddled saloons :D One of my ambitions is to own one that is older than me, and I haven't managed yet...

Thanks for the additional information on the build date, I will locate the cab number shortly. Our project is not finished yet, but we started working on it again recently. Had to find a new space to work on it.
