Indicators

I have recently replaced the rear lamp clusters on the car (1965 saloon).
Now, the rhs (driver) indicator works fine. As do the rhs side lights.

But when the left turn indicator is triggered, the lhs indicator merely lights up the rear indicator bulb (no flash), there is no flash on the indicator stalk and the front side light comes on (not the indicator light).
There is nos sign of life from teh flasher unit....

Must have some crossed wire somewhere, but cannot fathom it out as I meeley removed the rear lamps and replaced the housings with new.

Any ideas?

Sound like an earthing problem. Is the LH indicator dim at the back? If so its earthing through the sidelight circuit . Double check the erathing in the rear lamp.

You have crossed the wires somewhere. The flasher unit relies on the amount
of current being drawn through it to flash and your position is not drawing
enough to make it work(it needs two 21 Watt bulbs) you only appear to have one rear flasher bulb and the small sidelight wired up to the left hand flash
circuit. Recheck the colour codes on the wiring to the front side light.

Hi.

What are peoples thoughts on original v's practical safe indicators ? I ask in the context that I want my 1962 saloon rear and front indicators brought back to the original flashing red indicators (rear) to replace the later (non original, but safer) flasher unit. Obviously the later ones are much safer and bigger, but not original, and its the originality that I want with this car. I know you can get or add on two flashing orange indicators on the back for safety, but is there a train of thought on this one ?????

This topic is discussed regularly. My own view is that it would be suicidal where I live to rely on the original semaphore indicators as most modern day
drivers will never have ever seen them and will not be looking out for them.
I would not risk having my pride and joy demolished for the sake of originality. However it is easy enough to rig up a removeable assembly at
the rear so that the car can be original when you wish. My car is a convertible
which means that the semaphores are low down and easily hidden from view
unless the following car is directly in line so turning right could be very dicey.

I'd agree as well. I've not done it yet but I'm thinking of something that clips to the bumper, or possibly a strong magnet.
