Hello all
I keep having problems with installing WinSU.
I'd like to find out what needle I would need if I were to use my K&N filter
rest of the car is bog-standard 1098 low compression

Read the first page, a good intro.
Next try the excell spread sheet
http://www.burlen.co.uk/links.aspx
if that link dosn't work go direct to
http://homepage.mac.com/crscapps/CSA/Page1/Page1.html
You will find to be scientific in your approach, ie figure out at which stations you are running lean (and I suspect with less manifold vaccuum you will be), You really need to be on a dyno, with a mixture sensor of some sort, and have some way of measuring the station the carb is operating at).
You also really need to determine what you are trying to achieve ( ecconomy/ power trade off, esp. in the low to mid throttle region)
SU books also give you info in change in jet size at a given station that will result in an approximate mixture change. ( this should mean it will take you fewer itterations to arrive at your desired result)
Kepp us posted,
Good luck.

The K&N only makes a difference at full throttle - otherwise, you are limiting the airflow with your foot on the throttle mechanism - it doesn't matter to the engine whether the flow is limited by the throttle or by a restrictive filter - it just sees air-flow! So I very much suspect you will NOT need a different needle. BMC used to quote standard, rich and lean needles for all the engines - the differences are tiny. But I am sure you will have enough adjustment on the mixture nut to get this ok - then a simple plug check after a good hard run will confirm if ok.

I will give it a go. Alo to boost my MPG. I did quite well last weekend, about 43mpg. Which is rather impressive, I'd say

that is quite a lot of fuel though. Mind you my Celica 1.6ST twin carb did 15 mpg on average, but that was always thrashed
