Wanted Piston

Post by billt »

I have just bought a 1954 morris minor with a 1000 engine. One of the pistons is broken. Where can I get a new piston? The old one is marked M1710/4 MOWOG H45 Above the MOWOG is a diamond which I think has the No 1 in it.I live in Canberra Australia.

I would inspect all the pistons very carefully - it's unlikely that just the one has ben damaged - but of course depends on circs. The diamond is a tolerance thing - forget it. You need to know the bore size - usually if standard it would be marked 'STD' - also you say '1000' engine - but is it 948cc or 1098 cc ? Engine number beginning 9 means 948, 10 means 1098 - the pistons are very different! Bull Motif will sell you pistons - and if it's a 1098 then many of the MG places will have pistons, and some may have for 948 although they are harder to get now.

The motor has 950 stamped on the block at the front right hand side.
Does this mean it is a 948?.Thanks!

So it's the smaller bore size - shared with 848cc Mini - although the pistons are different height!
