Obviously not! that engine is one of the last(after March 1969) and is a high
compression 1098 with a Dynamo fitted and would have had a 'controlled
breathing' system of some sort i.e. the breather pipe did not go to the air filter but either straight to the Carb inlet or to a valve arrangement on the
inlet manifold and then to the carb inlet although some went in to the manifold itself.

yes your right it did have that arrangement with the breather pipe etc.
I put my origanal manifold carbs and rocker box cover back on the replacment engine. The rocker cover had a pie from it to the filter, but the replacment didn't. Like you said the original engine had a pipe from the side covers to the side of the carbs.
In your opinion is this the correct course of action to follow? or will it give me any problems?

Thanks for that Chris that was very usefull.
I think what I have done should be ok now. I will eventually reunite all the correct parts with each other when I have cleaned them up and checked they're all ok. I will be doing the Barnsley Joggle in her on the 19th, so I'm going to leave her alone for now whilst thing are running smoothly.
