Brake drum Question

Post by dnac »

I am goiung to get a disc brake conversion for the front of my mog, and was wondering if it would be possible and worth it to put the front brake parts on the rear, once they become redundant?

The reasoning is they are 8 inch front instead of 7inch rear

What do you think

It can be done - but you need Wolseley rear brake backplates - which are like hens' teeth. The drums and shoes from the front can then be used. But 7" rear drums in good condition can lock the wheels - so there really is no need for anything better. I had complete Wolseley rear brakes on my Rally Minor - great for handbrake turns - but not necessary on the road. The Wolseley 9" drums are an excellent alternative to going for discs - and very much less expensive!
