Don't really understand your problem? The Blue/White lead from one side of
the dip switch feeds both right and left main beams and the high beam indicator and since they all meet at the one junction(according to the circuit
diagram) You should be able to just join them all together as long as they
are the same colours.
No, it doesn't matter as the double bullet connector should mean that any wire inserted into any of the ends will make contact with all of the other wires.
the dipper switch on floor in car looking at back of it the blue wire (live feed). does this go on the contact point with the small arrow pointing next to it. the pins are in an L shape
Sorry, can't help you there. I have just tried to check my wiring and short of
unscrewing the dip switch or removing the gearbox I cannot see the connections!! (its about twelve years since I wired it up)!
V odd - I posted an answer, and instead of that going up, the last one appeared again Anyway, I think this'll be no help, the plug must have changed by '71. The plug as a triangle with the plastic tag at the bottom - top = blue, lower left = blue/white, lower right = blue\red. Like I said, no help at all...
Am now having the problem that all my wires are going in to the right bullet sleeves and all earths are sound and dipstick is working but the lights don't want to dip. they seem to be permanently on main beam!
that is odd, if the blue supply is connected to the wrong terminal on the dipswitch then you would have either main or dip in one position, dip and the headlights would go out. There must be a cross between the blue\white and blue\red somewhere?
You are certain the switch is working, i.e. changing over?

Yup, the wires are arranged triangularly, not as an L shape on mine.
Have tested switch: i put a wire from battery direct to central terminal (bottom left with other 2 diagonally facing it) with croc. clips and then used a circuit tester (wire with bulb on end) on each terminal to test if power was switching when i opperated the switch. and it did so my switch has its live feed to corner terminal.
If i connected live to any other terminal the lights are on then when i opperate switch. the headlights go out completely including light above speedo.
Now with the live on right terminal the lights stay on main beam permanently(they dont dip) also light on speedo also stays on!
I am gonna have to start again i thing wiring each circuit up separately
looking at back of engine bay where the wires go under car to the dipper switch there were 3 bullet connector sleeves for each wire to switch all fused together through perrishing of age. now these were replaced with individual sleeves for each wires is this right or should one have been a double or if it exists a treble.
You seem to have proved that the dip switch operates correctly so do some
simple checking.....remove the three wires from the switch and check that when the headlight switch is 'on' the BLUE wire is live. If so then connect the
blue wire to the Blue/white lead and check that the main beam comes on. Then connect the blue wire to the blue/red lead and check that the dipped
lights come on. If so then your wiring is all correct but the leads are not
connected to the right terminals on your dip switch.
