maybe they removed it. You could try and trace the wires

maybe one was fitted but stopped working and was taken out? If I were you I'd trace the wire and see where its connected if you can. If you can't disconnect and see if anything isn't working. If not I would remove it and use the new one for piece of mind.

well., I've had a jolly good look, and can't locate the wire or any wire behind the dash that doesn't have a home???, they must have taken it out like you say. I'll disconnect it tomorrow and kick the car up and check everything works, then I'll replace it with the new one... No wonder I couldn't find it, I didn't expect a wire to be coming from it already????., many thanks everyone for your help.. :)

good luck. Don't forget to put something underneath the car, there will be coolant coming out.

temp

Post by Willie »

The lead you have found is the variable earth side of the circuit and would
have gone straight to one side of the temp gauge. The other side would have
come from the Light Green wired terminal on the voltage stabilizer

It might be very unenvironmentally friendly of me in this day and age, but I tend to find teh planet acts as quite a good catcher of the rusty crud that pours out old engines ;)

If you're really quick and prepared, you can whip the old sender out and get the new one in enough turns to reduce the pour to a trickle without losing a great deal of coolant :)

cheap and cheerful stuff, the green/blue sort. I have got -36 coolant, protected with antifreeze. Works really well

I am using Comma Coldmaster -36 I think
