Make that 2 interested.... After a year or so driving the cavalier with discs all round and with ABS, Phoebe (even with new cylinders at the front) is somewhat of a shock to go back to! I'll have to wait till work settles back down, after all these bank holidays and *coughs* new additions to the drive, my income should settle out again then and I can start looking for a set

Had a quick measure and apart from a lack of inset for the backplates, Hillman Imp front brakes look to be a good fit. Same stud pattern for the wheelnuts as 1098 Minor.

Does anyone have some of the adaptor plates for using Midget discs on a Minor?

Is there an actual aim in collating this info? Looking to find tips, sources of spares, photos, curiosity or some thing else?

Just plain curiosity Rob. There only seemed to be BMC and myself who ever talked about these brakes so I started to wonder if we were the only two with them. Obviously not the case. Yes we can swap any tips we have re fitting or spares now we know who we are.

Rob - If you have sets you are never going to use - why not put them in the For sale section ? I think after this thread - they should sell ok !

Just bought a set of wolseley brakes £40 for my traveller, they have come with a spare set of cylinders which need new rubbers does anyone know if minor repair kit wll fit the cylinders? The brake linings are in good condition. After the repair of the cylinders this will be another minor on wolseley 9" drums!!

Well done - best value for money brake upgrade going - I think they 'should' fit - only one way to find out - buy a kit!

Have looked at the wheel cylinders, and I think I would be better buying new cylinders, Wolseley 1500 cylinders are twice the price of Morris front Lockheed cylinders, looking at the wolseley backplate it look as if the fitting for the cylinder is enlarged the small screw will fit, and a new hole for the large screw drilled does anyone know if this is feasible as it would save quite a bit of money.

yes it is feasible, however as the rectangular hole needs to be lengthened as it breaks into one of the original srcew holes. Best practice is to weld up the hole to avoid a weak point where a crack may start.

Yes - as Ray has done - so have I - and I did weld up the hole and then re-file to snug fit. However - this is my spare set and I haven't used them on the car yet. But I see no snags - the shoes are held in place as they should be and the drums fit over nicely.

I find my standard drums work 'OK' for what I need. How much better are the wolseley items?
I'd just like to be a bit more of a hooligan, I've got enough power (for now) but still have to start braking a mile before everyone else does!!

They are fantastic by comparison with even 8" drums. Never had any fade - when year before on same route the 8" drums were 'stinking' and had faded away very badly - and long pedal for rest of the day too. I use them without servo - straight bolt on conversion - no need to fiddle with master cylinder - expect to pay £40/60 for a decent set.

I hate to bring up this subject again. But Im in the process of fitting a set of 1500 drums to my mog. I have the Kingpins off the car and on the bench so i can paint them and the drums etc before they go back on.
I really could with some pictures or a good explanation as to what actually needs to be done to the backplate in order to make the Morris cylinders fit and how one goes about doing the modifications.

I see there is over a 2 year gap between the last 2 postings. Perhaps I can join in.
Are Wolseley front brake assemblies still available? I want some for my 1275 traveller, I can't be bothered with all the disc conversion work and all that messing with servos and remote master cylinders and a simple change of drums would keep the original characteristics of the drums but stop me a little bit quicker.
Incidentally I have standard brakes on the MM and I've never run into the back of anything in 30 years of ownership and I am not known for my gentle driving. I do however have a nice picture of the MM going through a set of red lights in Northampton at 15mph towing a well laden trailer. I decided when the lights turned to amber that I wasn't going to stop in time so I went for it and so did the camera.
Anyway if 1500 brakes are available please let me know. Cheers
