Bicycle Rack for Saloon

Post by crazyfrog »

Hello,

I am thinking of purchasing a Saloon 4 doors.

My partner and I are keen cyclists and we like to take the bikes with us on our holidays.

Do you know of a specific brand and model of bicycle rack that would definitely fit on the back/boot of a MM?

As someone tested a specific one ?

Many thanks :)

Probably not the answer you're looking for but have you considered something like a Brompton? (Fold up bike, http://www.bromptonbicycle.co.uk )

A bike-roofrack is possible however due to the height of the curved roof, not all roof racks are suitable.
One other thing to consider is that you can get bike racks to fit a towbar mounting, so that can be an option.

You can usually get a mountain bike into the back of a saloon by removing the front wheel but if its too big you can remove both.
The other way is to fold down the rear seat and put it in via the boot.

Two mountain bikes is going to be more difficult than one so a bike rack is probably the best option.

Yes, I have a halfords bike rack somewhere that has been used on the moggy fine! However it does obscure the number plate. Its quite old so i don't know if they'd still sell it.

When I get a moment I will try my Halfords rack on my 4-door Minor.
I'll let you know the outcome.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

Many thanks all for your responses.

rayofleamington, I am a bit confused about removing the front wheel, can you please elaborate ?

minor_hickup, thanks that's encouraging.

Peetee, thanks for doing this I am looking forward to the outcome. If conclusive if you could send me the brand and model it would be fantastic. I am actually looking indeed to rack two bikes min.
