Splitscreen re-rubbering

My windscreen was leaking badly, so I thought, why not have a new rubber!
I have had it done for about £80

taking car not to damage my already damaged chrome strip

the split removed, also 1 of the windows

all of it removed, fortunately no rust!

then the new rubber was fitted using mostly swearwords

Only thing that is a pity, is that there was a small leak before, it's a big one now....

WHY?

So how can I get that leak fixed? Some mastic? Glue?

They should have used mastik when fitting - take it back.

I will. Where should the mastic go? In between the rubber and the glass, or the body and the rubber?

Or both?

Usually both.

You can tell if it's leaking past the body or the glass though.
If it leaks over the rubber, then it's through the glass side.
It it leaks under the rubber, it's the body side.

The screen fitters should have the correct type at hand.

You want the type that stays soft & flexible, not the hardening type sealant.

Right Onne

I know how frustrating that is. I bought a new seal for one of my non-Morrisses and had it professionally fitted and the dang thing leaked worse than before. I got the fitters to come back a couple of times (mobile service!) and they squirted sealer under the rubber, but it never quite worked.

Finally they pulled the whole thing out again and sealer'd both the glass and body channels before refitting.

No more leaks!

(Now I wish I could say the same about my convertible)

I am taking her back on friday, they will fixit then. I'd better take a spare rubber with me for the screen
