Head lineing .. ARRGH ..

How easy is it to fit fit a headlineing ? I was told it was almost impossible by one person and very easy by another .. Should I even try or just take it to a specialist ?

I didn't find it too hard.
It's fairly easy to get it all fitted into the car. The hardest part I found was getting it all tensioned evenly to avoid too many creases.


There's 2 types of headlining in 1000s also.
One uses a series of hooks at the rear window to hold the lining (there's a cable in the lining) & the other has the lining glued around the rear window aperture.

I think the UK centres only supply the hook type lining (well, they didn't ask me which type I wanted anyway )

As long as you take care to spread it evenly when tensioning, then the only bit that looks 'complicted' is getting it fitted into the rear window rubber and locking up the tension cables.

I've seena few minors where they just glued cheapo carpet to the roof - far from original but might be cheaper - so I guess it depends whether you want originality or more of a quick workaround.
Based on how much soot there is in the car, personally speaking I'd avoid a new headlining as it's likely to get a lot of black marks during fitting. However if you've got the patience to clean and prepare properly i'm sure you'll get some pride out of the job

How does it look with cheapo carpet; is there a stretchy sort that adapts to the curvy roof or does it have creases?

I was planning on glueing sound-deadening to roof and a thin vinyl to the sound deadening... A stretchy carpet would be simpler.

The one I can remember used a very plain carpet - that way they could cut darts out of it for the curves without it being obvious.
