The actual radiator core is the same as the 1000. It's just the top tank that is double the size. I guess this is for extra coolant capacity.
Thermo syphon might work well in the UK, but on a hot day & pushing the car a bit, they soon get very hot out here

On a big trip, I remove the fan off the generator & fit twin thermo fans in front of the radiator.
It's amazing how much extra power you get by just removing the fan from the generator
