Pump

Post by Willie »

Shame on you Steve! The pumps are quite straightforward to rebuild and,
from previous reports on here they are at least as reliable as the 'pointless'
types. If the original type plays up you can usually get home by hitting it!

the shame , i know , the pump may be 20 yrs old , but blow it, when it conked out , i hit it and it started again ,of i went, 2 minutes later ,nothing, sat there for a minute ,turned on ignition, pumps ticking on overtime, floats empty because it stopped ?, anyway, teething troubles to be expected. also got funny graunching noise from n.s. front when hard cornerind right , tried to take up play in top pivot arm, but different sound now so must be the peristed /cracked rubbers ,got a set now, theyll go as soon as ive fitted my metro seatbelts, sorry purists who dont mind pushing a hole in windscreen with your head

pump

Post by Willie »

You will always get problems after such a major rebuild. If the pump was
ticking but the bowl was empty then you could have dirt under one of the
pump valves or a blocked filter. I have always found too that after a rebuild
the float chamber needle and seating fail pretty quickly for some reason.

this is what you need, Steve, about 10% the cost of an electronic pump.

I agree with you on the seatbelts though!
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

is that the Manna Hutte garage? Yes, good place, I've got some bits and bobs from there, and he's quite knowledgable about Mini's. He has the Henrics catalogues, keep meaning to ask his prices on panels- more convenient to collect on the way home for me than mail order.

You've just given me an idea!! Maybe a cheap place to get a MG Metro turbo and carb 8) 8) 8) 8)

broke down.

There you are you see, whacked the pump and off you went! If the electronic
one fails you will not be able to do that so make sure you carry the old one
as a spare.

But you said no power to the cable - so there must be a fault on that cable supply. If so - you can be sure it will let you down at the most inconvenient moment!
